An Edgy and Emotional Scorpio Full Moon

An Edgy and Emotional Scorpio Full Moon

Astrology used to play a significant role in healing, and centuries ago many European doctors were also astrologers. The word “Influenza” – still used by the medical world today – comes from the Renaissance-era idea that disease was influenced by the cosmos. Indeed, Scorpio is a sign related to healing, albeit the more down-to-earth aspects, like purging and making peace with one’s inner demons, which can dredge up a lot of fear and angst.

Collectively, this period of flux around Covid restrictions and vaccines and travel feels rather angst-y, a bit like eying up the forbidden fruit of Eden. So tempting, but is it safe?

The Sun in Taurus usually has us feeling grounded and stable after the agitation of the Aries period, just like the unstable weather of April gives way to a more constant May. But this year, the Sun, accompanied by Venus and Mercury, is activating the tense square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, just as it opposes the Moon, which is having a hard time relaxing in Scorpio. Things feel edgy, despite the ostensibly harmonious gathering of planets in Taurus.

A Scorpio moon in the birth chart often points to family and personal trauma buried deep in unconscious patterns. A person with a natal Scorpio moon is likely to have a love-hate relationship with their mother or, at the very least, an intense one – for good or bad. Scorpio energy is complex because much of it is driven by hidden impulses. Secretive and manipulative, Scorpionic motivations are not very clear to anyone involved, including them! This intense and hard to grasp energy feels seductively both magnetic and a bit dangerous, as anyone who is involved with a Scorpio (especially Sun, Moon or Ascendant) can attest.

Look back to last November 14th’s New Moon in Scorpio to see how things started or triggered then are culminating, or perhaps coming to their logical conclusion, over the next few days. At the time, I wrote: “Living with the most uncomplicated and fundamental approaches to life will serve us well at this time. We have a tendency to want to complicate our lives by striving and grasping for more-bigger-better at all costs. This is no longer the time for that thinking (if indeed there ever was a time for that), as we will have to drag all of that baggage with us through the changing circumstances that are rapidly swirling around us like white water. No matter how much we may want something to be a particular way, there are many times in life that we have to accept that they simply cannot be.”

The counsel still applies: the unpredictable energy of Uranus so close to the Sun and opposing the emotionally intense, secretive and manipulative energy of the Moon in Scorpio (which is unhappy to be ruled by a rather passive-aggressive, frustrated Mars, currently not at all feeling at home in Cancer) while also under tense pressure from Saturn in Aquarius (representing social and collective restrictions) illustrates the feeling of collective madness that is palpable around the world. Have we gone irredeemably insane? The pandemic has accelerated some of humanity’s more suicidal habits, from social division to environmental destruction.

On April 30th, the Sun conjuncts Uranus. This annual combination is an astrological wild card. Things can turn upside down, or go in a completely unexpected direction, personally and collectively (look for where Taurus is in your chart to see what area of life is being, er, stimulated). I hasten to add that this is not necessarily a “bad” thing: sometimes unexpected or otherwise radical events can be very positive! Stay flexible, and move in the direction of what aligns with your fundamental values (Taurus).

Will there be any relief, I hear you ask?

Imperfectly and temporarily, yes. We can expect a couple of months in which current boundaries and restrictions are eased considerably once Jupiter enters its home sign of Pisces from May 13th until July 28th. It will be a sample of what the first half of 2022 will bring, but our uncomfortably narrow current reality will start to bite back once Jupiter heads back into Aquarius again, bringing its expansive, optimistic energy back under the rule of restrictive and authoritative Saturn.

Until then, make the most of what lovely Venus in her Taurean happy place is trying hard to show us now: live in abundance, enjoy life’s pleasures, and know your value.

Wishing you much love and good health now and ever,
Susan
